Picture it MTV awards 2009: https://youtu.be/UIfyvZDrcwA?si=MukzavWPvuiXGr5D
Beyonce' is somehow in the same category as the girls
Here comes Kanye with the diss.
Y'all
DISS SHIT
Dissing...in general
Is not necessary.
Now, to play Devil's advocate I don't think Kanye thought of it as disrespectful at all. I actually agree with the sentiment he expressed, yet I strongly discourage how he went about presenting his perspective.
Wrong Place.
Wrong time.
Wrong goddamn audience.
What Beyoncé knows, and one of the multitude of reasons she didn't run up there to make overt public claims is this:
When you're the best, you don't have to speak on it. Everyone knows.
Now,
Everyone may not want to acknowledge it but guess what? We are not living, producing, creating for external validation anyway. sure, receiving the due praise feels great but that's not something you can force externally.
I'm not spending space time or energy defending why Taylor deserved that over Bey' but I have to acknowledge this:
MTV (the network, awards, and entire institution) was built for "The Taylors" of the world.
There's no need to disrupt. Is the desire there...yup, but there's a time and place for everything.
Part ii is where we'll dive in deeper
A preview of what's to come:
It takes all of us y'all. There's space at the table for us all.
But here's the key:
We must work together!
