Amaka: What's in a name?

Let's talk about it.

If you know me, you've probably NEVER called me by the name Amaka, and have wondered where it came from besides it poppin' up in my social media profile. Fret not, you can keep calling me by whatever name/names you know/knew me as. They all still apply.

Amaka is a spiritual reminder to myself to live out life as my highest form.

In the summer of 2020 I decided to level up my spiritual awakening and awareness by decommitting to outdated thoughts about who I am and who God is. I completed the spiritual warrior course through Inner Visions Institute (led by Iyanla Vanzant who you may know from OWN's Iyanla Fix my Life). In doing so my "name" was changed to Amaka which in one translation means "she who knows well".

The reason I was attracted to Iyanla as a spiritual teacher are unending, so here are the top 3:

1. Her African-ness

2. Her comprehension of The Divine as an expansive force rather than a limiting, elitist, restrictive, religious creation.

3. Her humanness & humor.

This post is not about Iya...we'll get back to that subject on another day*.

Anywho,

This course required daily dedication to a process of

challenging false beliefs,

commitment,

study,

clarity in consciousness,

expansion of mind that goes far beyond religious practice

but rather facilitates an intensive transformation of the heart and mind, to create energetic alignment on every level.

I undertook this process with the intention of dismantling limiting beliefs that restricted my

connection to and oneness with my creator. In doing so I shed 30+ years of limiting beliefs created and committed to a new way of being.
